It is a sad reality in the modern social scene: if a woman takes her eyes off her drink for a moment, it gives their date or a stranger the opportunity to inject this drink with a tasteless and odorless drug that could leave them more vulnerable to attack.
The most effective prevention is attention, but a new cosmetic company now offers women an unexpected weapon: lip gloss.
2 Love My Lips is much more than a brilliant minty and plumping, it is also a drug test kit. Each of the five flattering shades is fitted with a single strip treated to detect gamma hydroxy butyrate (GHB) and ketamine, which are known drugs for rape.
If a woman is concerned that someone has tampered with her drink, she can dip her finger or straw in the liquid – it works with most alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – and place a drop on the tape . If GHB or ketamine is present – it cannot currently detect Rohypnol (Roofies) – it will turn dark blue in seconds.
“Thanks to my personal experience and that of my close friends, I have identified a need for such a product”, explains the founder of the British brand Tracy Whittaker, “so [I] started looking for drugs to drink and the type of test kit I could put on a lip gloss pack while developing the perfect lip gloss for a glitzy evening. ”
Although the glamor of lip gloss does not naturally correlate with the severity of the sexual assault, Whittaker’s unconventional concept could prove to be an unexpected boost for the decline in rape linked to Drugs.
2 Love My Lips has just been launched in the United Kingdom and is expected to be available in the United States and Australia in the near future.
